One of my all time favourite guitar players is selling a cab on eBay, it's tatty but has a flightcase.

I'm tempted to buy it just to go and see if it really is Nick McCabe selling it.

That really demonstrates how fickle the music business is.

Urban Hymns was about as big as it got at the time - yet the success (and indeed the band) didn't last long.

I can't say I've followed anyone from The Verve in the intervening years - the last time I came across Nick McCabe was a track on John Martyn's 'On The Cobbles' which he played on - but this is a sad state of affairs.

I hope his circumstances improve.

They probably didn't make as much money as they should have done, given the royalties battle over Bitter Sweet Symphony IIRC.  I'm not an expert on that event, but from what I remember they lost their royalties?

I met Nick once in a dubious underground social location in Islington.

Lovely bloke, had a little jam on acoustic guitars and got wasted together with a few others.

1999 I think it was.
