OK, then...since my modesty won't let me vote for myself...

1 - Antique_Guitars - Nice and funky. Sounds like it needs a bit less gain and some neck pickup lovin', but very nice :)
2 - TTony - Cheating slightly 'cos there are two riffs there, but sounds like it'd make an excellent start to a song if drums and bass came in at 0:20.
    3 - littlegreenman - Moody. Me likey.

Not easy to pick 3 is it? Particularly with the variety in recordings.

    I'm going for:

1: TTony - for what sounds to me like a particularly vicious re-imagination of the Born to be Wild theme. Liked the guitar tone too

    2. SteamAbacus - riff was inventive, very distinctive & different, but still memorable and hooky - I find it's easy to lose the latter when you have the former

    3. LittleGreenMan - I liked how the effects / arrangement / trem dip etc help create a 'riff' that is bigger than just the notes played on the guitar

Also really liked the timing on Basher's and enjoyed listening to the rest too.

Ok so top place for me goes to Steam Abacus

    Close 2nd is digital scream

And although it's not really a riff my third place goes to LittleGreenMan...if it was chord progression or arpeggios of the week this one would have been the winner :D

2 Horse - All right then
    3 MazzaG

Some ruled out as they're not really riffs

  • Guys I'm really sorry but I can't listen to the last two submissions... So for now I'll stick with my previous vote:

    TTony
    Robkay
    Steamabacus

Looks like I need to work on my riffage, bugger lol

Once again a great showing from all entrants and thusly tough to call, but her are the votes from the surreal nutters jury.

Nary a fag papers width separated my top 3.

    1st and 5 points = @Horse

    2nd and 3 points = @digitalscream

    3rd and 1 point = @Antique_Guitars

Just back from holsies and able to listen to these properly.  Brilliant.  We're good!

    1st & 5 points - Horse

    2nd & 3 points - Antique_Guitars

    3rd & 1 points - Daveww

No points for @ThomasRoss20  but I'd like to hear that riff with some slightly better recording quality to it - I think it would sound much, much better.

Wish I'd seen this and had a go, never mind.
1st - @digitalscream Clearly the winner to my mind, well rounded and sounds complete if that makes any sense. Great rifferyness.

2nd - @antique_guitars some really great choice of notes in there, good work.

3rd- @robkay nice playing, is it a riff or a chord progression? Don't care I like it :)

  • Cheers, Tony. I used to do it work traktion but no time these days - mic'd up. Bummer, thought my riff was ace lol. Yours was very musical, liked it a lot.
