Guitar show in Birmingham Next Year

What's Hot
Hi all,

I recently got an email from the Ticket Factor to say tickets were on sale for the Great British Guitar Show at Bingley Hall next year.

Great I thought, I go ever year.

Before buying them, I went to check out the website to see what traders, etc.

For the last couple of weeks the website has been down.

Anyone know if the show is really happening?

I know a website down doesn't mean the show isn't happening but it's a little bit disconcerting.

Cheers
Mike

    It should indeed be happening.

     Feb 28 / Mar 1.

I don't think it's being actively promoted yet as there's still lots of details being finalised, which is maybe why the website isn't functional yet.

We'll try and co-ordinate some theFB activities around it too - see if we can encourage a "few" of our members to come along, and arrange a properly decent do on the Sat night too.

We've got a few months to plan it, and keep the dates clear in our diaries.

  • Worth coming down to from Edinburgh? I mean, is it SERIOUSLY worth it?

It's a nice little show but not worth coming down that far for it

I'd say that depends on ...

    - what's the cost of a trip from E'bro to B'ham?
    - how much do you want to be at a guitar show, and meet up with a load of forumites on the Sat eve (assuming that we get something arranged?)
    - what else would you do with a weekend ...

If that date's official, I'll get onto the Madhouse Bar to see if we can book it for an aftershow again? Hopefully get a bit more of a turnout this time ;)

Man...its just too much racket !

Fender had the best idea last year with a separate little room, someone suggested that every hour there should be 10mins quiet time, so you can at least talk to the sales bods..

I love looking round, but if you want to actually try anything properly....no chance.

    will I be there....yes !

  • Actually I agree with you. The first year I went, everything was at a reasonable level. Last year it was deafening and pointless trying to listen to anything at any booth,

Jason, any thoughts to improve it this year?

    Difficult I know.

Needs to be a compromise here.

I remember the last of the big guitar shows at the NEC and it was that quiet it was pointless being there to try any gear out.

Tried to turn up enough to actually hear the amp and was immediately shot down by the fun police.

But when I went to the last GBGS I noticed that it was a wall of noise and after 20 mins was starting to annoy me a little as I had to shout at sales staff in order to discuss what they had to offer.

So there is room to meet halfway on the sound issues.

Probably need a separate area for amp-based stands, that's reasonably sound-isolated from everywhere else.

Or, you have set times of the day when amps are "on" (alternate hours perhaps).

You don't want a deathly silent guitar show, but you do need to be able to talk to (and hear) people.
