An interesting look into the different versions of the Xotic BB Preamp pedal.

I built my own BB preamp clone a few years ago and to this day I've yet to find an overdrive pedal that I prefer to it, and lord knows I've been through many pedals. I built mine using the instructions on the tagboardeffects blog:

Anyway, whilst looking back on information about this classic pedal I found the following article that details the circuits used in the different versions of the pedals that were released, including the Andy Timmons model.

When I built mine I had to a parallel up quite a few capacitors to achive the correct values and I don't know if this added some mojo vibe to my build cos it sure sounds great.

Any BB fans on here?

Yes definitely. The custom shop version with mid boost. Really versatile pedal with a 3 band eq.

I have the Caline Orange Burst. It definitely has some magic to the midrange. Very sweet sounding drive. I don’t like it with the gain past 12:00 because the distortion sort of separates from the clean bleed through, but then I always play with a completely clean amp.

I have the BB Comp. It's pretty cool, especially for home use. That AT setting drops volume but adds a lot of crunch.

The BB-MB is a REALLY good pedal. The mid.control.is very nicely tuned

Can it dial out some of the baseline midrange, or is it just a boost ?

Yes, iirc 9 o'clock on the mid control is the default mid setting on the regular pedal, so you have some 'cut' from there as well as (more) boost.
