So another new challenge here and this time it is the SOLO of the Month!

This is the 2nd SOLO of the Month (SotM) Challenge, being run by @Antique_Guitars and @TTony.

The idea is that we give you a new backing track to solo over every month, the backing track will be a maximum of 1.5mins long and you will have to download the track from soundcloud and record your solo over the top of it and then submit it to us.

The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 24th April.

All you have to do is ...
  • Download the backing track and record you solo over the top of it.
  • Challenge opens on the 1st of every month, and closes on the 24th of the month.
  • Voting opens on the 25th of the month, and closes on the last day of the month, when the winner will be announced.

Here is this months backing track (you can download it from soundcloud)

Specs: African fusion jazz C minor D# major Cm D#

Let us know if you would like your entry to be anonymous.

Send your tracks to solos@theFB.co.uk

The tracks will be uploaded to our SoundCloud account and saved in a playlist that will be linked below

Very nice backing.  I worked this out at 68bpm if you wanna set your delays with the bpm.

It lends itself to the style of playing that most people were using last time. Just the note choice is different,

When I read African Fusion Jazz I thought, ooooft.....

But it's got a good beat and bass line.  Quite like it.

Yeah, again I'm thinking Steve Lukather style fusion.

I was a bit put off by the description but I'll have a go. You may notice some similarities to last month's effort. I may have to retrain my pony for this one. :)

Nice stuff @stevepage and @bingefeller . Great tones and playing again. I'm envious you can tap into that level of playing at the drop of a hat.

I had a few run throughs - I have an idea of what I'm going to do but it's not flowing yet. Very much enjoying the whole thing though.. far more than I thought I would. :)

Thanks @mudlise73. A bit sloppier than I would have liked but Im still getting used to using 10s after playing on 8s for a while. :-)

Thanks very much. I went for a less flashy approach with this one. Less gain too.

Some great note choices there @bingefeller

Both sound great, what are you both using for your guitar sound, is it software, hardware modelling, or mic'd amp?

Thanks.  I'm using JamUp Pro on the iPad.  The patch is called "Bulb Lead" and is a Misha Mansoor patch.

I'm using a Line6 Toneport Gx with some amp and effects packs.

Thinking of upgrading and going for Guitar Rig or Amplitube soon.

Loving those two entry's. Great phrasing and I really like the vibrato stevepage.

I had a go at it this morning. Backed the gain off and used a different guitar to last months thing. Its a bit one paced so I'm not massively happy with it but I emailed it in.

What DAW and audio interface are you guys using for recording?

I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and Ableton Live Lite 9 and having quite a few latency issues when recording to the backing track (using a pocket POD straight into the Scarlett)
