I'm getting towards early Beatles territory now.

    Why?

    Dear me.

Less buckle rash and more belly buff.

It seems more important to look cool when you're young/at school. Once you join the real world that slips into distant memory (unless you are professional and have to play the image).

I tried shortening my Tele's strap last year. Felt weird. I still prefer em on the low side of middle. I'm 6' and at Gearfests most chaps complain my straps are too long :D

I can't recall the exact quote ( or even close to it really)but Tommy Tedesco said something to the effect that you had to be fat to be a good guitar player as resting a guitar on a large stomach presents the pick at the proper angle to the strings.

Tommy Tedesco blew off gigs if he wasn't allowed to smoke on stage, he was a legend but I get the impression he's not a great role model.

The lowest point of my guitars have always been above my belt buckle - since I was 16.
A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

I agree - but that's because I don't have long arms & so I can't play fast with the guitar a la Page.

But you can still sling it around & throw shapes even when worn like Petrucci

  • It should be where it's most comfortable. I find it better higher up. It just seems like hard work to have a Guitar slung so low unless you are just bashing out Power Chords.

I don't know how some players do it like that for years and not have muscular or nerve problems.

I'm 6'2", so it doesn't matter where I've got it, I still look like a freak. 335's don't look big on me at all. I just put it where it's comfy to play, although I generally find I pull the neck up rather than the whole guitar. It's really shite being the tallest band member by far in yer band.

That said, I get nay grief from punters. Which is nice.

My profile pic is high slung next to how I used to have my guitars, but I'm now positively in orbit.  Oh dear, don't grow old kids.

  • Doesnt anyone else find that they can groove better slung low? Just seems like more natural.

    Yep.

I will have different heights depending on what style I want to play. Low for sleazy rock 'n' roll, higher for funk/rock.
