Here's the 12th Riff of the Month (RotM) Challenge, being run by @Antique_Guitars and @TTony.


The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 24th July


All you have to do is ...
Write a guitar riff. You can include whatever else you want in the mix, but the main focus must be on the riff.
Keep it to a maximum of 50 seconds. This is about riffs, not songs.
Challenge opens on the 1st of every month, and closes on the 24th of the month.
Voting opens on the 25th of the month, and closes on the last day of the month, when the winner will be announced.
Let us know if you would like your entry to be anonymous.

The tracks will be uploaded to our SoundCloud account and saved in a playlist that will be linked below.

Mine's sent a few mins ago. This one done in the usual way, but a little clearer than last months Raw effort which was super fuzzy.

Gtr > Orange 10W amp > Hudl2 > Audio Evolution > Wavepad > Emailed! Hey presto.

@Bingefeller Still loving that tone. Bought the bias amp app, but couldn't find the tone you used. Was it a purchased one?

IYes, it's a purchased extra, it's the Ola Englund War amp.  The preset is called Bulb Rhythm.

Just need to get round to recording mine. It'll have a bass line and drums, which is a departure for me!

Yeah, I need to pull my finger out and get my riffs recorded. I'd hate to miss the deadline like I have with the Composition contest.

Totally agree, could you just do a quick version of 'Round and Round' for kicks?

I'm not that good at playing that tune to be honest.  My riff was influenced by Round and Round though, which is why I called it Around.

For the Mayday tune I was thinking of Michael Schenker!

For that tone I was using the Ola Englund Jamup Pro amp called "War".  I used the Bulb Rhythm preset.  You can't find many good demos of it on youtube as it's a "djent" preset:

For this tone I used an EQ setting to try and match Ronnie LeTekro's tone when he uses his Boss BF-2.  Basically Ronnie leaves his flanger on all the time and he keeps the manual knob all the way up with everything else rolled back.  When he does this the frequencies that are being messed with are:

400 - 500 hz - cut a little.

1100  - 1200 hz - cut a little.

800 hz - boosted a lot.

After I'd recorded the guitar I went in to Logic and just added a channel EQ with those frequencies cut and boosted and that was the end result!
