A 'standardised' (some might say bastardised) 1960 LP Special. If I knew the 'luthier' who did the work I'd ask why the tailpiece was fitted so far away from the bridge and off to one side rather than in line!

At least it plays like butter, allegedly...

Tailpiece is there to hide screw holes from a bigsby or maestro, I'd bet.

maestro  - its not quite covering the 3 holes

I don't think its firewood, looks mostly functional.  just not worth the asking price considering the work it would take to get it back to a desirable state

It's a bit of a mess, but you could salvage it. Wiped a fair bit off its value though, the clot!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

"The area where the newer ABR bridge has been attached has been routed out and filled offering more stability and a stop tailpiece has been fitted lower down basically turning this into a Les Paul Standard."

Apart from the tailpiece placement I like it. At a more reasonable price it would be worth a punt I think. Would look cool with a bigsby on there to cover up the tailpiece mess IMO. *puts on flamesuit re bigsby comment*

Frankly - I think it's ace. And cheap for a vintage Gibson. Yes some of you will gasp in horror at the mods but back in the day, guitars like this were actually common - and at least you can see the mods. There's plenty of shit "original" stuff with pretty, relic'd paint over the reworked routings to turn them back to original spec for far more money.

The work done tells its story - and for me at least, makes it just as appealing as one that has been under someone's bed for 50 years. There's a reason guitars like this get to that state - they are usually the best players/sounding ones and they evolve to suit a particular player.

If I had the money, that would be mine right now. And I'm not kidding.
