Chord Of The Week 31/10/15 - The Cliff Richard 'Devil Woman' bIII5/I chord

bigjonbigjon Frets: 680
Next in line for our series of good chords in songs by uncool artists, here's a moody, blues-y bIII5/I chord from Devil Woman by Cliff Richard, at 0:04 in the video below. It's an F5/D chord, so why not call it that in the title? Well, it's in Drop D tuning, so needs reassigning to the key of E as G5/E if you're going to refer to this chord in normal use, so I've gone with the generic Nashville chord numbering notation. To play the original chord, drop-tune your low E string to D and play:
F5/D: 033xxx
To evoke the chord in standard tuning, play
G5/E: 055xxx
In the original chord the notes are low-to-high DCF which is a Dm7 chord (no fifth), but in the context of the whole progression over a D pedal note D G5/D F5/D C/D it's clear that its function as a Dm7 chord is merely incidental but its function as an F5/D chord is fundamental.
