They must just have changed it.  Look at the home page, it still stated £399

  • The black one was certainly £399 just after 11am, but the other colours £499.

Nope - you're right.  Just black at £399 (I already have one in black)...

It's a pity they don't seem to include the sunburst finishes in any of the deals. I think I'd be tempted to pull the trigger for the heritage sunburst.

I had the red one briefly, the colour was very flat, and was damaged in transit. I got the black one in replacement.

I probably would have pulled the trigger on the brown or burst one....

oh - note.  The packging on these is shocking.

Big branded cardboard box.  Bit of cardboard to protect the neck. A thin strip of bubble wrap in the bottom, and the guitar in soft case rattling around in there.

Expect some level of dint on arrival.  The first one was battered to hell, the second on had minor nips, which I decided was ok. It's a thin finish, so it'll age quickly and show every mark regardless.

...and these have been hanging around somewhere for a couple of years (2013 spec aren't they?)

  • Erm, why is this in FAQs? Lol
I'm not a McDonalds burger. It is MkJackary, not Mc'Jackary... It's Em Kay Jackary. Mkay?

"Where can I get a cheap Gibson" is a frequently asked question

  • I'd probably go for the chocolate finish without hesitation, black, not so much.

Blessing in disguise, I don't need another guitar.

  • Bought the les paul 50's tribute from them the other week, arrived in tip top condition.

That was a better deal, rrp reduction wise, but I'm still tempted here.

Last time they added a different colour option later in the day....

Erm, perhaps I should point out that the SG wasn't sold in the 1950s. It was first made in 1960 and marketed as the new model Les paul before being re designated the SG in 1963.
Also the SG had a thin extra fast neck upon it's release, not something associated with 50s guitars.

Gibson have just 'imagined' what an SG would have been like in the 50's.  They created this model, stamp the word 'prototype' on the back of the headstock, give it a nice big fat neck, and slap a pair of P90's in it.

End result, My perfect SG. All it needs is a Bigsby for utter perfection.

Set up out of the box was pants, But, it's a lovely guitar.

Quite an imagination putting 24 frets on a guitar in the 1950s though :D

I wonder how it affects the SG's already legendary neck heaviness?

Screwing a Bigsby to it helps aleviate that problem ;)

... yeah... and I don't believe the new, built-in iPhone charger was a feature on 50s Gibsons either.
