How could I forget this on my list?! Great call @GuitarAndy2!
Sarcasm is often hard to detect in writing. If in doubt - yes, I was taking the piss.

  • Highlights for me.
    Ken Mode - Success
    Sannhet - Revisionist
    Ghostbath - Moonlover

    Disappointed by
Murder By Death - Big Dark Love
Love all their other albums but just can't get into this one.

  • Iron Maiden - the Book of Souls (Just plain effing brilliant)

    and...

Amorphis - Under the Red Cloud (Joyous catchy metal)
Draconian - Sovran (Great doom with male and female vocals)
The Gentle Storm - The Diary (brilliant album from Anneke Van Giersbergen makes up for no album from her form band The Gathering this year)
Paradise Lost - The Plague Within (and their live orchestral album Symphony For the Lost)
Queensryche - Condition Human (Second brilliant album from the band since they ditched that arsehole Tate)
Riverside - Love, Fear and the Time Machine (latest album from Polish prog brand in the Porcupine Tree/Marillion ouvre. Think I might actually like their stuff more than the other two)

Slight disappointment though worth mentioning is the latest Nightwish album. New singer Floor Jansen is phenomenal. Been a fan of hers since After Forever and later her own band Revamp. She's brilliant live - a genuine brilliant talent. But I feel the album Tuomas has written for her debut isn't anywhere near as good as the last two he wrote for former singer Annette. But still a notable album this year because Floor's performance is so good.

  • Absolutely nothing. It's been a trek through the recent past instead. Loads of Tim Hecker albums, Stars of the Lid, and listening to my own noises.

"The Killer Instinct" - Black Star Riders
The musicality, the trademark Thin Lizzy twin lead guitars, the slight shift from cheesy lyrics to a more serious front, BSR continued their "war" theme with a solid album. Much better than the first. Very impressed and still enjoy it. The more serious side was what they needed.

Thanks for this info @Octahedron, I did not know that BSR had released another album.  I will look out for this when next in Dublin.  I have "All Hell Breaks Loose" and I like it.  Someone on this forum suggested I get it when I asked for suggestions.... A good buy.

Mrs Rocker got me the BSR album @Octahedron. Not played it yet.

As far as I can recall I've only bought one great 2015 album - What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World by The Decemberists.

Having said that, the only other album released this year that I own is Some Feelings by Julia Nunes, which is ok but not wonderful.

  • I thought I had a few to mention but they are mostly from 2014 now I've checked.

Gaz Coombes - Matador is a good one, and he was fucking great live. And I've been listening to Johnny Marr's new live album a fair bit recently.

  • Hmmmmm ...

I'm still trying to enjoy the James Taylor album, it's not grabbing me in the way the October Road or Hourglass did, although there are some good tracks on it.

Camel's remake of The Snow Goose is highly creditable, but I still prefer the version I've been listening to for the last 40 years.
