  • Friday afternoon really can't be arsed to get on with this dull report but have my iPod with me post, so apologies - if needed - for bringing back an old and slightly unloved Discussion.

I shall try not to skip to make it seem anymore interesting and will listen to them all as I go:

Tony Tribe - Red Red Wine ( not a particular favourite)
Jimmy Cliff - Miss Jamaica  ( more old ska! C'mon iPod I am more cosmopolitan than this)
Deep Purple - Aprez Vous  ( I don't think I have ever played this track all the way through before \m/ )
Rush - Force Ten ( I normally skip this as well but its fine)
The Specials AKA - Nelson Mandela ( lots of stereo weirdness)
    The Clash - Armagideon Time
    Steely Dan - Black Friday
The Steve Miller Band - Tramp  ( more proof that I am just an ageing middle of the road rocker, sigh)
Vintage Trouble - You Better Believe It ( still just an ageing middle...)
The Little Willies - Love Me

And have finished my dull report

    2. KT Tunstall - Shanty of the Whale (from The Scarlet Tulip EP)
    3. InXS - Mystify (Demo) (from Kick reissue)
    4. Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday (from Hot Rocks). GOD I detest this song!

There isn't a single song there that I would have chosen to listen to, and at least 1 that I have never listened to in my life!

EDIT: This is what comes of having a 160GB iPod and feeling the need to put EVERY piece of music I own on it...! :)

So do I, but I listen to everything when I load it, and get rid of stuff I don't like - although not always straight away, I often like to give things a second chance, but if something comes up more than once on shuffle and I think "why do I have this crap?" then it goes.

I don't have the excuse of DJ'ing either! I just like a lot of commercial pop, and I'm not judgemental about most of it until I've listened. Having young kids helps with this. There are limits though… Cheryl Cole is one of them :).

    8. Hans Zimmer - Introduce A Little Anarchy
    9. Paramore - That's What You Get

My problem is there are albums I have bought on a whim and never listened to properly, looked at for years thinking "What on earth did I buy THAT for?!" and then, suddenly, for no particular reason I'll give it a spin and think "I LOVE THIS!"

So I like to keep it on there, just in case....but then again, who the chuff needs demos of Manics/ InXS songs?!

I notice that with a lot of albums these days - you get "bonus" tracks which are usually of questionable interest at best and bugger up the album sequencing… or worse, dodgy remixes that add nothing to the original song. The worst I've found recently was that Best Of The Human League which came as two CDs, the first is the proper one and the second are remixes… unlistenable from one end to the other. I just deleted the whole of disc 2 from iTunes.

I also have smart playlists called "New" (Plays = 0) and "1" (Plays = 1) and usually listen to those on shuffle when I'm not in the mood for anything specific. New is normally empty more than a few days after I've got something, but 1 is about 10% of my entire library, and I do often rediscover cool stuff I've got and then more or less forgotten about.

I've just got into them recently, my dad showed me some of their stuff. Brilliant, really like it.

I also didn't know they (well, Karl Wallinger, the main guy behind the project) wrote "She's the One" - assumed it was just written to be performed by Robbie Williams. The World Party version is much better IMO, sounds like a lost Beatles track.

Bloody hell, that's a blast from the past - didn't they become Heaven's Basement and are now doing quite well?

    Anyway:
