I'll take a break from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star jazz chords and come back to it later, as I've covered the whole arrangement using just 3rds and 7ths. For the next few weeks I'll catalogue some of my favourite chords which I've used while playing guitar in church over the last 28 years, as I'm starting to play for the meetings at my church a bit more often now the children are older.
There's a song called "Purify My Heart", in the key of E, which starts with the chords |E B|C#m |, I play the E as x7999x, the B as 7x987x and then the chord of the week
C#m9: 9x9890
I play the bass note on beat one of the bar then do one slow floor-to-ceiling strum on beat 2, so all the notes ring into each other, especially the D# on the 3rd string right next to the E on the open 1st string, and with the F# on the 2nd string the next note up the C# natural minor scale. It's a very ethereal and evocative chord, and it's one of my all-time favourites!
I've done a quick video, the C#m9 chord is at 0:04.
