Although I detest Cameron with an unhealthy verve, I am oddly inspired by this.
Consider me IN.
You have been warned.

But probably best not to go there.
So far I've listened through my 'Best of the Bonzo Dog Band' CD and watched a Viv Stanshell documentary on YouTube - very enjoyable but hasn't really got me anywhere with this challenge. I'd kind of like to do a 'tip of the hat' towards trad jazz but don't really know where to start - it wasn't exactly a guitar-centric style.
:-??

I've had a few ideas swirling around and have assembled a few samples but hadn't actually put down any concrete musical ideas - well, I now have a rudimentary drum beat and a couple of woodwind samples playing a simple musical idea. It's a start!
I have some great ideas but actually manifesting an actual listenable tune (without hiring a whole trad jazz band) is going to be a challenge. I'm well out of my comfort zone on this one! Let's see where it ends up.

I spent about an hour trying to work out how to get a vst sample player loaded up with some brass and woodwind multi-samples that I got from Computer Music (or some magazine) years ago. Slow going and after about an hour I gave up as it wasn't sounding too realistic and I needed a LOT more time before I'd be able to get anything musical out of it. So I decided to stick to what I know - guitar.
Since I've only got three usable notes in the samples I've got, they've taken a more background role and the idea to do something a bit trad jazz has fallen by the wayside.
What I've got now is a basic backing track for the whole tune - drums, programmed bass and synth, a couple of horn samples and a scratch rhythm guitar track - and a pretty good idea of how the arrangement and lead melody is going to go. And it seems to have developed a serious dose of ska!
Next step will be to record some proper bass and guitar tracks.
:-O
I better get cracking with actually recording some guitar tracks (at least I know the arrangement that needs to be recorded at this point).
