Someone (Gun?) did a rocked up version of Prince's Let's Go Crazy many moons ago - let's face it, it's a Rock song anyway. Could be a topical choice, too.
Used to do the Gun version of Word Up by Cameo

    Anything by Abba
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

I was very sceptical about this, but we now do "Does Your Mother Know?" and it goes down a storm.

Abba just lends itself to be rocked up. Almost any song works well.

    Lady Gaga is the same.

We've done Ghotbusters, Thriller, I think we're alone now and Poker Face and they worked well. We're currently looking at combining Motorcycle Emptiness and Jessie J's Price Tag since the chords are quite similar.

Gun's Word Up is a good shot and we're seriously considering an 80s combo of One and Only, Tiffany and Rick Astley. Might work, might die a death but you gotta try this stuff....!!

    Another vote for Word Up.

    Also,
    That's It I Quit - Dr Feelgood
Wake Up And Make Love - Ian Drury
It's Only Natural - Crowded House

    It's not a competition.

bad Roamnce rocks up nicely The SKa "Brown Eyed Girl" is presumably the Reel Big Fish versions. Goes nicely as a pair with their "Beer" In fact I tend to find pairs of songs by either artist if theme work well

I've no idea re Reel Big Fish as I've never heard of them, the dude is in his 40s maybe 50s though so as they appear relatively recent I'm not sure? In fact I've just youtubed it, it's fairly different in that I don't want to rip my ears off when his band play it ;)
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

"Secret Agent Man", Johnny Rivers.  We couldn't believe the response this got every time, full dance floor, people cheering, and it's so easy to play.  I wonder why no ones released a rocked up cover yet.

If it's not been said already, then I have always had a desire to do Rock Lobster by B-52's :-)

Odd things that I've had success with in the past.

Erasure: Take on me (Reel big fish style)
    The Levellers: Beautiful day
    James: Pretty
Dexi's midnight runners: come on Eileen (Save Ferris version)
Madness: One step beyond (I play sax too, so this worked)

Also used to start a set with Pulp Fiction theme, that went down well.

    Presumably you mean Misirlou?

Playing Come on Eileen is almost compulsory in the West Midlands.

We had to admit defeat and drop "Let me entertain you" as the drummist insisted in playing it in 7:4 (Ditto "Keep the faith" by Bon Jovi).

Think we're going to try the Eagles of Death Metal's version of Save a Prayer by Duran Duran
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • How about a overdriven thumping version of ' I wanna hold your hand'?
Or The Damned -'New rose'? Maybe.

I do a fun rocked-up version of Orinoco Flow by Enya when I can get away with it - the synth broken chords translate well to the guitar as Paul Gilbert-style string-skipped arpeggios.
