Great idea.    A "best of" by each band gives a decent list of big hits.

Hot for Teacher, Duran Duran did a great cover of Make Me Smile, it was a B-side to one of their hits (my sister was a big fan!).

Yep, and although you can probably count on the fingers of one hand people who loved both bands (I'm one of them!), EVERYBODY loves either one or the other, right!

I bet a lot of guitar fans that like the van halen quite like Duran as well.

And if you stick to the hits - jump,  hot for teacher,  why can't this be love etc. then it will work well enough for Duran fans.
You've probably got a bit of leeway to get away with a few other 80's songs if they have guitar and a big chorus.

    How about:

    1) Eruption + You really got me now

    2) Planet earth

    3) Ain't talkin' 'bout love

    4) Hungry like the wolf

    5) Dreams

    6) Save a prayer

    7) Cabo Wabo

    8) Ordinary World

    9) Drop Dead Legs

    10) Come up and see me

    11) I’m on fire

    12) Girls on Film

    Encore:

    13) Jump

    14) Rio

We can miss out 7-10 if it's getting boring.

A few of Duran Duran's less well known ones are still great tracks.

What a strange combination of bands! I agree about not playing eruption, it's just a guitar wankfest really. I'd have it in the bag in case people shout out for it, but keep it under wraps otherwise.

The Duranies also did an album of covers so you could stretch the repertoire with that... =)
Pretty Woman? Great VH cover and one the Duranies would recognise.
And Hot for Teacher. Cause it's great.

^ both good points and I wouldn't mind doing an arcadia song but I think with 10-14 songs we'll have to keep it to the well known ones (mainly for our sakes ;) )

Election Day is a proper good tune. With all the Power Station stuff as well you'll be spoilt for choice :)
