  • 5 Points - @steamabacus - Love it for it's sheer craziness(but fantastic all the same). If Middle Eastern Funk isn't already a genre, you just invented it :)

    3 Points @stratman3142 - Like the beat/groove, well played.

    1 Point @kin - Very imaginative piece.

    5pts @Bellycaster for channelling the StrayCats
    3pts @stratman3142 though I preferred the RRotM bass riff?
    1pts @kin for just being different.
    Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

    5 points @Bellycaster - John Barry does rockabilly, great fun
    3 points @kin - liked the atmosphere
    1 point @steamabacus - all your stuff has a very distinct sound and there's always lots going on, liked this one.

    Sorry to leave @stratman3142 out - a very clean piece of playing (I wish I could play like that), but the others caught my ear a bit more this time.

  • Wow , great entries all!

    5pts @Bellycaster ;
    3pts @steamabacus ;
    1pt @stratman3142 ;

    Honourable mention @kin , this was great but I the drums and production on the other tracks edged it for me.

    What are people using for your excellent drums? Tbh the reason I tend to stick to the Raw rotm is because I suck at programming drums and the drum loops that come with Logic 9 are awful. Any tips?

    Mine was all recorded using my JamMan looper pedal - I started with a drum loop loaded onto the JamMan and then layered guitars on top. The drums originate from Addictive Drums. I wrote a description of the process of getting them onto the looper here ... http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/comment/773347/#Comment_773347

    I mainly use Addictive Drums or Steven Slate Drums. Both come with built in midi grooves. I've also got most of the Groove Monkey midi drum packs.

    The midi loops are a good starting point because, as far as I'm aware, they're played in by a real drummer. I find a groove that's close to what I want but don't let it constrain what I play too much (especially on bass), as I usually end up iterating things and editing the patterns and velocities to suit the other instruments using the midi grid in Reaper.

    Sometimes I programme from scratch using the midi grid in Reaper and iterate things so the drums and other instruments match.
    It's not a competition.
