New Humbucker naming competition - Free pickup prize

What's Hot
This has been driving me nuts all summer. A number of my customers now have one of two versions of my new medium output Alnico 8 based humbuckers.

To give you an idea...One reads around about 10-11k and appears in the video demo below. The customer suggested "big Blocks" but I'm not so sure. Anyway there is another one around 13k that for now is called Hellraiser, but I'm not so sure about that name either

The Ceramic humbuckers that are currently being prototyped have a name..... Icarus 6, Icarus 7 and Icarus 8 depending on how many strings you have, and as the name suggests , these will be just about as hot as the sun.

Back to the competition, I need a name for the A8 buckers, if anyone suggests a name that I decide to use I will give you a free bridge or a 50% discount voucher for any set of pickups you like.

Thanks ,

Declan

Nice sounding pickups! I will have a crack at this and suggest the name "Versari" - it's Latin for "focus" but to me also seems to suggest the versatile nature of the pickups. :)

If you're calling one set Icarus then it makes sense to call the others Daedalus.

In keeping with the Greek mythology theme, how about:

Apollo (10k) : god of music and the arts, and also a perfect male specimen. He has the power to heal, but also bring disease and plague should he wish to.

Hades (13k) : god of the underworld, keeping up the dark side of the balance between good and evil. A more cultured name than "Hellraiser" whilest keeping the same connotations.

these are good, I'm liking Apollo and Hades at the minute

Gassage I also thought Daedalus but its not the easiest spelling to remember and the other pickups names  go off on all sorts of tangents so not totally necessary to stick with a particular naming convention.

I have enough trouble with the spelling and pronunciation of Deacci ....I like your thinking ....but have another go,

thanks for the response guys looks like this might produce more than one winner

Winny I have no idea why I like "The Boot"

Daedalus doesn't sound like it would be a very dynamic pickup!

yip Apollo is gone, SD do a Jazz bass pickup called Apollo. Hydra google search threw up this ...."Hydra is a fictional terrorist organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The name "Hydra" is a reference to the mythical Lernaean Hydra." ......no other pickups called Hydra, but ..... it sounds a bit watery ...no?

Logically Daedalus would fit as its definitely a lot less hot than Icarus..... but how many had to check the spelling or is it just one of my dyslexic words.

yea Icarus worked perfectly Digitalkettle, I wonder did Daedalus use beeswax or paraffin or an 80/20 mix for the wings. The current 7 string Icarus prototype is 23.5k and just as likely to get burned before all is said and done

Last idea. Thinking of your idea of hell and underworld. Well Jason doesn't work so how about 'Argonaut' or 'Hades'

I like the idea and sentiment behind the greek mythology names, the only thing that concerns me is ease of spelling and remembering them as hopefully someone will want to search for this by name on google.

Mr-Mac I very much appreciate all the brainstorming on this Sir, don't give up yet, Daedalus just pips Medusa for me as Medusa reminds me too much of the wife (thankfully she doesn't read fretboard or id be DEAD alus) probably let this run for a couple of days and put it to some sort of poll to decide

    Greek stuff
    Helios (sun, icarus connection)
    Phoebus (shining)
Labyrinth (get lost in the sound)
    Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.....

    Shame Apollo was taken.

If Medusa brings up bad feelings, how about Gorgon? Feels like a catchy name and is kind of in the same vein.

I also thought about Poseidon, which ties in with Icarus, as he falls into the sea, the realm of Poseidon, and then goes on to drown, ending up in the grasp of Hades.
