(cheapish) flatwounds

MrTMrT Frets: 21
I'm getting back into playing bass again for a new band and fancy giving some flatwounds a go on my Stingray. I don't want to spend too much as I'm not sure yet whether I'll get on with them but is there any brand in the cheaper spectrum which are better than others? Looking for something under £30. Anyone have strong opinions?

  • Fender 9050 flats very good and they are from 18-25£.

Get La Bella's from the outset, you'll save in the long run.

  • Daddario chromes are more modern sounding, check the classifieds. Someone was selling 4 sets or so, see if they will sell you one.

Some guys in Basschat sell used strings if they've put them on and didn't like them.

    have a look.

Also, Status-Graphite make their own flats. Very good and cheap.

I have chromes on my Stingray.

They are great. I've got Thomastiks on the P, which I love, but I still prefer the Chromes on the Stingray.

Thanks all. I've been keeping an eye on basschat for some used ones but there don't seem to be many about at the mo. I've ordered a cheap set of Fender ones to try for the time being.
