Absolutely boring choice of pedals, then again I guess he needs them to play all those John Mayer songs.
    What, both of them?

    Giggles.

I must admit, it seems excessive for clean, smooth drive, smooth drive 2, smoothest drive, swirlie. But hey, if he can afford it, why not?

It could be a board for electric, board for acoustic, spare. In which case, that's pretty sensible tbh.

Nice choice with the Qtron +. I had one of those, it's a brilliant sounding pedal. I replaced it with a vintage boss one for size and reliability but I did love that thing.

John Mayer's new touring rig by CAE... it's all his! I can't fathom why that many switches are needed at any one time!

Comment deleted and replaced with love instead.

I really wouldn't know which button to press if I was using that at a gig. I'd be certain to fuck it up....
I wonder if they're in fours. Stamp somewhere in the right place and you get the same result.

As I recall, Utah Saints did somethng similar; they had keyboards that triggered samples, but split into only five or six samples per keyboard. Mash it anywhere in the right area and the right sample plays.

The 2 big boards might be the same (same no of switches so could be a back up).
Big rig for a big star who as people say, has different aspects, requirements to his set. If it's there, he probably needs it.
Usually it will be one onstage, one offstage, so that the tech can control most of the switching and the artist can override if need be.

Many/most top level bands do it like that these days.

It does kinda make me wonder, if you can't post a pic of a sexy rig like that on a guitar forum without snide remarks, where can you!

Edited and filled with a four-acre pedalboard instead.

Get it right, sir. I'm jealous of Tom Verlaine, I'm jealous of Kevin Shields, and I'm jealous of Jimi Hendrix. John Mayer is simply a boring shitehawk.
What on earth made you click on a thread about someone you hate so much (it even says Mayer content in the header), unless you spend your days trying to wind yourself up, do you read the Daily Mail by chance?

Musical taste doesn't (or shouldn't) come into it.

I'm not a massive Television or MBV fan, but clearly both Verlaine and Shields are successful, influential players and I'd be interested to learn about them and learn from them.

You may not particularly like Mayer, but he's clearly a talented player, songwriter, singer, etc. *shrug*

How does an artist as musically beige as Mayer get so much hate and so many rabid fanboys?

Somebody has done the hard work:

    Dry Board

    - blah

    Stereo Wet Board

    - more blah

    Controller Board

    - ...

    Rack

    - ...
What does Wet and Dry mean in this context?

    It's a hipster thing.

Dry is dirt, boost, EQ, compression, wah.

    Wet is modulation, reverb, delay.

    No probs.

I think more specifically it suggests that the "dry" signal gets its own amp, and the "wet" signal gets its own amp (or amps).

  • Is Willy Wonka aware that John Mayer nicked the control panel out of his Great Glass Elevator?

What I simply cannot fathom (as an owner of a system of something near to this ilk- but with MUCH better pedal) is why so many stomps on the midi controllers....

One CAE Midi Controller has 99 banks of  16 patches ! Surely he can't need (and I've worked this out) 9,504 patch selections.
