if its one of those metal sticker type 'custom made' things, i would be trying to use something like a guitar pick to slowly ease it off, and then naptha ' lighter fluid' to remove any adhesive residue.
nitro is very sensitive to solvents, and can be quite thin, so test anything out somewhere that isnt too visible, on an edge maybe--before you attack the front with it, good luck.

If you don't mind damaging the plate I would try carefully peeling it up with a knife blade first though - a Swiss Army knife is ideal - use a piece of thick paper to protect the finish. Most double-sided tape is quite weak in peel, although strong in a direct pull. Go very slowly.
