The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 24th April.
All you have to do is ...
- Write a guitar riff. You can include whatever else you want in the mix, but the main focus must be on the riff.
- Keep it to a maximum of 50 seconds. This is about riffs, not songs.
- Challenge opens on the 1st of every month, and closes on the 24th of the month.
- Voting opens on the 25th of the month, and closes on the last day of the month, when the winner will be announced.

This was recorded on my Ibanez Artist onto a Digitech JamMan SoloXT and from there direct to minidisc (no computers were harmed in recording this piece).
The drum loop was, in fact, created on my computer using Addictive Drums and then loaded onto one of the JamMan's spare slots. As this all gets played out through my guitar rig (in this case, through analogue speaker emulation), I pre-eq'd the drum loop with an 'inverted 12" speaker" eq curve so that it would sound more natural through guitar speakers (or emulations thereof).
There are two layers of guitar looped up on the JamMan, both played on my old Ibanez Artist which is tuned to D Standard.
