If there was no gravity would you need a hoover?

What's Hot
I was hooveirng up earlier and hypothesised with the wife that dust and debris falls to the floor due to gravity so a hoover is designed to suck up detritus from the floor, but if there was zero gravity the dust, food bits, skin, cat fur, toe nail clippings and general stuff would float in the air and not fall to the floor so a floor based vacuum cleaner would not be effective and you would need to be careful walking around with your mouth open!

so, what would be the best cleaning solution in that case?

and yes I just used the words hypothesised and detritus, ooh get me!

How you going to walk around with no gravity?

You'd need an omni-directional Hoover. Probably....

Without gravity would there be an "up" to have something be "over" ?

Presumably a closed air filtration system as used on the ISS?
No gravity= no atmosphere = living in closed systems that would need air recycling and would therefore be easy to filter?

No - that would be dangerous. You'd be Dyson with death....

If there were no gravity, you would only exist in a big vacuum. Like...really big.

No need for a little one.

No gravity doesn't imply no atmosphere - just distance from anything massive. Doesn't have to be a vacuum either. If you create your own little container full of breathable oxygen then you need to contain the molecules of your own atmosphere or they will go walkabouts across the universe.

What makes you think that you'd be anywhere near a body with an atmosphere if there was no gravity? ;)

Yeah, something like a swimming pool filter to clean the air?

The real question here is if there's no gravity would your wife still think you're wrong?

i think we all really know nothing falls, its just the upward velocity of the flat earth that makes it look like the dust is falling

it's weird to think that people only felt the need for vacuum cleaners after electricity was discovered. Clearly the world was a cleaner place.

Think about it, if you're not dissolved in solution, you're part of the equation.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

8 hours in hydrofluoric acid. Surprised it's not available as a funeral option. Give the family a bag of salts afterwards.

Dust would still be attracted to charged surfaces.  Record player lids, Polyurethane varnished floors, plastics and furniture and melamine worktops are the worse.  Also there is microgravity in space, everything has gravity, no matter how small.

The fact that vacuum cleaners were invented after the discovery of electricity doesn't mean anything - the first vacuum cleaner was invented in 1860 and was manually operated. Powered ones started being introduced around 1890 and it wasn't untill 1914(ish) that people stopped buying manual versions.

It's weird to think that wotsits were made after electricity was discovered,  clearly the world didn't have a need for cheese flavoured snacks back then.
