Does the phone socket work correctly with other phones ... if not you need a new lighting port flex cable at around £6.20
To test the cable buzz it through with a metre, ground is common to both ends, tip is left, ring is right
if you get really stuck then I know a good electronics guy in Swindon who's always been able to fix my pa gear
thanks again
What you're describing sounds exactly like a failure of the common ground at the 3.5mm plug end. Those RCA jacks aren't switching (I don't think) so if the two channels are out of phase - caused by the ground being broken - either will work on its own but both will sound odd.
But it could probably be the common ground pin on that double RCA jack - I think they're done like that. If it's cracked at the PCB it would do the same thing. But check and double check *everything* before suspecting the mixer… they're quite a pain to take apart!

Bit late now but. You can get RCA to 1/4" mono jack adaptors and they very reliable and about the only audio adaptor I will use. I go for the all metal version. Gold if I can get it. Makes buggerall diff' to the sound but I likes me Bling!
