So on Sunday nights rehearsal, I decided to go all basic.
Eich head, 2x10 vanderkley cab, tuner. (Oh, and wireless..)
I know bass players aren't supposed to use pedals, but it gave me a chance to actually concentrate on eq properly, use the "taste" control, and use the volume and tone controls on the P properly.
Proper refreshing. Loved the tone. Fitted well in the mix and it meant that I could concentrate on playing and technique rather than fiddling with bloody endless pedal settings.
At this rate I'm going to end up with an Ampeg B15..

Lovely sounding, but surprisingly quiet.

The eich head is 1000w and sounds fab, but I do miss some of the valve colour.. which is partly where the b15 comment came from..!
10-1 you will be rocking a board soon enough.
I've never seen the point of effects with bass.I enjoy listening to those who do it well like claypool, winbish etc but for me I want to play the thing.Imho there's so much you can do with a bass in terms of technique that effects get in the way of that..
A p bass is such an awesome piece of engineering all you Ned to do is listen to jameson for an hour and play along.ymmv.
Run it into the FX loop on the Eich and bypass the amp preamp.
Instant old Ampeg tone.

I know it's what I should do. I do know. I'm just liking the simplicity...
