Hi guys - need your advice.

Currently getting back into playing but have a distinct lack of space at home. So I'm looking at the amp sim route. For the last week Ive been playing through my cheap old Toneport UX1 into Amplitube free which sounds okay to be fair but I'm wondering if theres a better option.

Ive seen Amplitube 4 and Guitar Rig 5 can be purchased with their own interface for cheap with a full variation of the software. So my options are either of these or using my old (?outdated) interface with something like Bias. I like the look of the HD iRig 2 simply cause it looks small and therefore portable  but have read it can be questionable for build quality. Ill likely be sat on my sofa with laptop etc also on sofa so need interface to remain as small as possible!

This is not for recording - only for playing. Any suggestions?

Edit: also any recommendations for cheap headphones would be appreciated. Just using standard headphones you'd get with a phone at the moment which arent actually too bad but I'm sure there's better options.

I got a line 6 amplii tt. Have a look at one on youtube. It's big compared to a std interface but you can run it off phone or tablet.

Surely you have space enough for something like this?

What's the problem with the TonePort?  It should do the trick for casual playing and, from what I remember when I had one ten years or so, it was reasonably low latency.

For amp sims, there are lots of really good free/cheap offerings.  If you couple them with an Impulse Response loader for cab sim, there's a lot of tonal variation available.

    Here are a couple;

Yeah I've always had an eye on one and have had a look at the new ones - Ive thought a lot about selling my katana head and getting one of the wireless ones. But current conditions wont make selling anything easy I'd imagine.

One of reasons i was thinking amp sim was having everything in one place. Amp, tabs, YouTube etc. Being able to flick laptop on, pull everything up and then get playing sounds bliss.

Thanks @revsorg, I've had my eye on Pigments for a long time, and finally sprung for it the other day for 50% off, taking advantage of being able to split payments over four months.  It's an amazing synth and I'm very happy.

You can find Amp SIM reviews here ... https://honestampsimreviews.com/

For headphones, Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are decent at the affordable end.

@SheldersWhat about the Orange Omec Teleport for a small interface? If it looks like it will do the job,  let me know as I could well have one for sale in the near future... ;)

I got the bundle after seeing Guy Michelmore demonstrate Stutter Edit (part of the bundle) on his Youtube channel. It's great fun, but I'm not how much it's going to be used yet.

Iris 2 (part of the bundle) seems like a nice synth as well. Luckily I had the presence of mind to set the sample library paths of Iris 2 and BreakTweaker to an external drive as together they amount to about 13GB.

    It's not a competition.

Waves have announced that it is now possible to request and register a second license for most Waves plugins that you own and are covered by a current Waves Update Plan (WUP).

This allows you to have a copy installed on your studio computer and one on your portable without any tedious license moving, either by Waves Central or by loading the licenses onto a USB thumb drive, which has always had the potential for becoming lost whilst travelling.

You can get your second license for your waves plugins from the link below.

I bought the Abbey Road monitoring thing, from Waves, then go an Eddie Kramer vocal effect plugin thing for free.

I thought I'd try to use the Abbey thing on a couple of my tracks that I'm trying to redo the mic and master thing and good lord my efforts sound terrible haha hopefully I can improve with it
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me
