Those neural dsps sound pretty good. They seem a lot more realistic than most sims I’ve heard. Does this mean I can ditch my pedals and Laney amps now?

...and they announced an update to Archetype: Cory Wong today. More presets and a nice chorus added.

Do you find the SDXs a significant step up from the standard EZXs? I have a bunch of the latter and I can get decent results from them with a little tweaking, but I'm tempted to get SD + a one or two SDXs. Are they CPU intensive?

I have both EZX and SDX and the latter is incredible in terms of editing, midi assignment and routing etc. I'd say for most home studios it's completely overkill. EZX and its expansion are much more affordable and will be sufficient for perhaps 80% of users. SDX is pretty efficient CPU wise from my experience.
