Not something I do everyday. But it was something I really enjoyed doing. I was asked to age this Les Paul... it wasn’t in mint condition when it arrived which is good. I’ve used the existing dings and knocks to my advantage.

Thanks! Yip that was my thought when it arrived. “That shine gotta go!”. 

I prefer SGs and 335s to LPs. I don’t mind a shiny SG but I love matte finish aged 335s

Sunburst S Type body heading to the U.S of A this week. The customer actually sent his poly finished neck to refinish and age too. Always a privilege to get business from America.

The very same man. Love SGs though it’s been years since I owned one - had an amazing classic with p90s from one of the early runs. A 335 - or more so a 330 is on my dream list. I would love to find a bit of a basket case one and do a full restoration in Pelham or sparkling burgundy, I’m sure you’ve probably had that daydream yourself
Have never been able to gel with off the shelf LPs personally. Maybe I need to try one of @customkits ones?!

Funnily enough I’ve toyed with the idea but being surrounded by this stuff every single day it would be nice for once to just pick up a ready done Gibson and enjoy it. Part of my problem is being so swamped with work that I haven’t even got half way through building my second guitar. I think it would probably rekindle my love for playing if I could walk into a shop, try a bunch of Gibson’s and have “that feeling” I used to get when buying gear. Haven’t felt like that for a long time unfortunately.

Thanks Darren. I’m aware that ageing is contentious anyway never mind doing a Lester. But I was happy to avoid what Tom Murphy thinks an aged LP should look like. I think this one is on the right side of “aged”. Tbh, it’s original colour helped too.

I agree about murphys, utter shit imo if the ladt one i saw is anything to go by, you can't razor check, does not look good, also if you're ageing the board needs doing too

I love nicely aged guitars and it's a skill to get them right, I've got 2 to fade out now, no idea what one of them will do but should be close enough for me

Haha yep I guess you’re right! Likewise, if I found one to restore tomorrow I’d probably have it finished by 2025

It’s not a bad thing... being busy. But it sure does extinguish the love of the guitar for me. Maybe if I kept one in the house to play on I’d feel differently.

I'm the same with regards to playing that's why i love those dc juniors, just leave it on a stand and pickup when you want and they're nice and light, sometimes i can't be bothered to pick up a full fat lester

A more interesting one... the customer wanted aged sonic blue over a two tone sunburst. The ash 2 piece body is also routed for a neck humbucker and finished off with a Bakelite guard.

David sent his poly lake placid blue tele to us for some new clothes. His request? Slightly faded sonic blue and a new pickguard. This was a fun body to do, it’s definitely looking sharper and fresher now than when it arrived

I’m really proud of this one. I knew it was going to be a good build early on but I wasn’t prepared for this! 

Faded sonic blue 2 piece ash body with a rosewood 9.5” neck. Lightly aged and finished with Gotoh hardware, CRL switch, CTS pots and bareknuckle staggered 68 pickups.
