just sprayed a burst on that one.  Didn't like it so stripped it back again.  I got  really nice pattern, but the colours were a bit off.   I did get a good teas burst as one of the early stages, but its not what i am after here.

I ended up too orange in the middle and quite dark at the edges.  looked a bit too much like this

and i want a bit more like this

Is that bottom one like a very dark cherry with a browner rim or just straight brown

I think it’s got some cherry in it, so that’s what I will try next.

Yes I'd go very dark cherry too and a touch of fading, i cover bits up that i want to keep dark as the cherry does dissappear rather quickly

quite happy with this, not perfectly consistent all the way around and there are a couple of little splatters.  The knot also adds a dark patch that throws of the burst slightly, but the plate will solve that...nothing that doesn't suit the vintage kinda look i want

I’m hoping the idea makes sense to others as much as me.

The cherry sunburst was was a bit of a departure from the traditional darker sunburst. I have never been a fan.  I like them faded, just not actually red.

If Gibson had done a burst in 53, it probably would have been a dark one like this.... certainly what the juniors and other burst finishes got in the earlier 50’s

i might go more tobacco than amber on the back... similar to an early junior

looks good to me,  will it fade a little wez, I'm not keen on straight cherry burst either, faded always looks better to me

Probably not.  I used some chestnut stain in the lacquer for the red tint, not analine.  It was just what I had in

its now got clear on so time for a quick mock up

tobacco brown back - not grainfilled so it will sink in really quickly

There are a few flaws, but i am happy with it for my first, and its nothing I can't hide behind a subtle relic so i don;t feel the need to redo it.
