Finish rebuilding mine last night. This is the cleanest, most stripped back board I’ve possibly ever had, and I’m really happy with it. Clean as a whistle, and sounds superb. All good choices going on here!

@jonnygreentrees I've still got it, but I dont use those functions live, so I'll just hook it up off board as and when I feel so inclined.

    Ah ok.

Does the Morningstar switcher turn pedals on and off for you as well?

@jonnygreentrees yep, Morningstar pair now control everything on my board. TU-3 and Cali are before the ML5 (Cali always on), then:

    Loop A - Pitchfork
    Loop B - Brothers & Ottobit
    Loop C - PS-3
    Loop D - Whammy
    Loop E - CE-2

followed by the Warped Vinyl, NS-2, Tonal Recall, Polymoon, Mercury 7 and Infinity.

with the exception of the NS-2, all those post ML5 are midi controlled by the MC6, which also controls the ML5 loop switching. The MC6 also midi operates the Brothers, Ottobit and Whammy within their respective loops, so it really is idiot proof live. Only things my feet touch are the whammy treadle, expression pedal and MC6.

aye. I have the MC6 set up in a bank per song for live, and then song sections per button, so that one press activates / deactivates / loads etc whatever settings are needed. Morningstar really are great - couldnt even do this on a G2 as my MIDI requirements exceed it's capacity. Only the RJM Mastermind PBC could do it, but that's over a grand.

very nice @gavrichlist , how long is this iteration gonna last?

Think your'e gonna catch the 'downsizing' bug even more?

na, I'm down to the essentials for our stuff now. I'd struggle to even swap anything out if I'm honest. I've been tweaking it a fair bit of late, but purely for functionality purposes - I wanted a clean and spacious layout to minimise margin for operator error live, and also as clean a tone out of it as was possible. Really happy with the results FINALLY, (was having a few really irritating hum issues that have only just been solved) so I can see this layout sticking around for a good while. It does absolutely everything I want it to.

I will be upgrading to the MC6 mk2 on launch, but only so I can further up the clever!

Does all the midi get in the way of writing on the fly? i.e. dialling in new sounds that you haven't already preset?

@jonnygreentrees not really, no. the way the CB stuff works, I just flick the centre toggle left and right to put it in live mode, then saving new sounds is just a case of holding both switches whilst sending a PC. For some reason this stuff stays in my head, so it never feels counter-intuitive. Plus the way we write is quite a meticulous process anyway as we have to shape all the synths and such, so I dont mind then applying the same to the guitar sounds. Most of what I play is essentially clean at it's core, with varying shades of delay and verb... any of the more complex stuff I'm happy to spend the time shaping and programming.

    sounds good.

Also interested why you have a noise gate? I have about the same number of pedals as you and don't really notice much background noise

it's not really needed, but JM pickups are pretty noisy so I like to clean that up pre delay and verbs.... plus it seems to be a really good buffer for this particular set up - sounds noticeably better when it's on, which goes against just about every last bit of perceived internet wisdom, but there you go.

its amazing how much something someone said on the internet, can affect your tone, even if you've never noticed it :P

    (I'm a big fan of the NS2)

Great to see the ML5 on your board to give me an idea of the size - it's larger than I first thought. I'll persevere without one for a few weeks or so and see if I can manage without it.

Your board is stunning! Although I pity your poor back!

I consider it light now! - dont forget I used to lug a PT Grande around in a flightcase - that was genuinely a borderline 2-man lift, so this is a holiday. Contemplating a Mono Case just for taking to rehearsals.
