This is what £1300 cans look like...

What's Hot
As I posted a few weeks ago, I won the headphone giveaway form the website Produce like a Pro, they arrived a few days ago so I though Id do  nerdy unbox video !...Sound test to follow.

They are bit like the "Bentley" of cans I guess, everything looks and feels well engineered from the packaging to the jack plug, , nice weight, super comfy, but....a heavy price tag.....if I could afford a Bentley, the I guess Id buy these as well....alas I cant, but hey.....nice prize !

They look great!  Am looking forward to your thoughts on the sound.

    When I have ‘upgraded’ in the past I have usually noticed background details that I previously never noticed like;
*Recognising Michael Jackson’s doing backing vocals on Stevie Wonders ‘All I Do’ song
*The distorted punky sounding backing guitar on the Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Second Hand News’

Try Kate Bush's albums, "This Woman's Work" and "Hounds Of Love".

Get yourself a decent headphone amp to connect to your CD player. Check any of the dedicated headphone website (headfi or similar) for decent models. Chinese built valve headphone amps are relatively inexpensive and sound great. Feed those cans with a decent signal and hear just what they can do.

If you were expecting to see a different type of "cans" for £1300 then believe me, you wouldn't want to.. even £1300 per can would be a cheap job...

Actually slightly disappointed nobody has come in calling these "budget headphones" yet, the forum's elitists are not on the boil today! ;)
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

    Wow, awesome !! Congrats...

But how do they sound ?!?!?!
Ok so I did some sound test...I used some Sony MDR 7506 and some Extreme isolation EX25, against the Focal Clear Pro.s.

Not the best comparison but its what I have here, firstly they are definitely different, I would say almost a little flat sounding against the Sony for sure on my personal mixes, but then I did find the clarity much better, its almost a "roomy" feel, like you take a dry mix and add a touch of room reverb.

They are very, very comfortable, as I listened more and switched between all 3 I found the Focal just better all round, which clearly we should expect from such a vast price difference, I think I could use them for longer periods than the other 2,  though the EX25 are for sound isolation so not a great comparison.

I found I could listen at louder volumes without getting any irritating frequencies, and as I tried different types of music things just seems to appear....Beatles stuff is great  !

Overall, ...really nice kit, very well made, everything about them is cool, ...would I spend £1300 ?....probably not...and Im happy with my mixes on my £150 cans....

I do intend to get a dedicated HP amp at some point to see how they sound with that.

Thats that....Im off to enter some more giveaways !

How are you finding them now it’s 2 months down the road?

Do you use them most days or just once in a while now?

TBH I dont use them much at all, I dont find them great for recording and mixing, maybe as Im used to closed back headphones, my intention is to get a decent DAC and use them for listening rather than studio use.

When I was on the hunt for decent cans for mixing, I went with the reviews and got Sennheiser HD650s,
which are really comfortable, and suited my budget-around £260, I couldnt justify £600 for the HD800, and then I saw Zeos channel on youtube, which is addictive. Think Simpsons comic book guy reviewing high end stuff--really good channel for hi-fi.
Sennheiser brought out HD660's and he called them the second coming of Christ, for £500, half the impedance of the 650, so they work well with phones etc.
Anyhoo, he's just reviewed the newest Hd58x jubilees, which are SAME driver as the 660, and exactly same construction , and are £150, he even went as far as removing some foam from the 58x , by simply pulling them apart, which made them even closer to the 660's, fascinating really.
same manufacturer, same parts, £350 difference for a different colour, they actually put more effort into the cheaper ones.
If you are lucky, you have to let your ears decide.

@spark240 - you posted about these Focal Clear headphones in another thread I started about expensive headphones some time ago. They were too much for me to contemplate at the time. Anyhow, finally, after much study of reviews (written and Youtube) I decided that they were likely to be to my taste, and since music is such a big thing for me, they might be worth the investment (just under £1070 delivered from Gear4Music). So ordered a set - early Christmas present from me to me - arrived this morning, and bloody hell they're are just astonishing. I'm only listening with a cheap heaphone dac on Youtube at the moment, and it's still quite amazing - blown away, hairs on the arms standing up stuff. Modern recordings are fabulous, some older ones show their limitations but still reveal hidden details and sound great. I guess at some point in the not too distant I will be upgrading the dac to something a bit better, but wow, and cheers for first putting me on to these headphones. :)

Thought the unboxing was a chore - package for high stuff like that should slide apart (insert rude simile) not need shaking.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

Agree - though its a minor point  I guess, just the design causes a vacuum in the box.

My main niggle is the lack of clear L/R identification, I have to check every single time I use them which is a pain as I dont keep them out with the leads connected.
