Morning All,

I'd like to get more into transcribing blues/classic rock guitar solos / licks from tunes etc.

What blues songs / solos / artists would you recommend as a good start (I. E. Not too complicated/fast but still tasty)  ?

Thanks for all suggestions,

Chris

Parisienne Walkways by the late Gary Moore may not quite fit into the Blues box but it is a decent playable solo and the chord progression is nice too.

Are you fully transcribing, or do you just want to learn the tunes?

    I’d start with Beano album.

I'm pretty poor at transcribing, but I recommend 'Transcribe' software. You can isolate a part, slow it down, loop it, have the loop gradually increase in speed.

I use Transcribe too. Great piece of software.

I also find it most useful for practicing phrasing at slower speeds.

You shouldn't need anyone to tell you what to transcribe, you should transcribe stuff you like.

  • I'm not an authority on Blues Artists (I'll have a think later though), but I can recommend some good rocking stuff.

Radar Love is a great song to learn, great riffs, fills, riff changes etc.

Any 70's Glam Rock is fun to learn too.

Sweet - Teenage Rampage, Ballroom Blitz

Elton John - Sat Night's Alright for Fighting

    Slade ....Any song.

For general blues/rock technique, if that’s what you’re wanting to develop, Gary Moore and Walter Trout are your go-to guys.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.
