(Silly video) What does a 54k neodymium humbucker sound like?

A little experiment of mine with absolutely no real world application. Quite funny to try though!

  • I enjoyed the video.  In some strange ways it kind of demonstrates the impact of higher output pickups can have.

The overdriven sound at 3:30 reminds me of the Seymour Duncan (forum-designed) Slug humbucker. (40-something kOhms, ceramic.)

Most of the sales of The Slug were to SD forum members, ordering partly for the forum discount and partly in the hope that scarcity would eventually make the pickups extremely valuable.

Few purchasers ever reported back on how the pickups sounded. I suspect that the pickups were never been installed. Collector/hoarder/speculator mentality.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.
