Alien back in the cinema for it's 40th Anniversary!

I've seen it countless times on TV and DVD but never in the cinema. Opens next Friday, and I can't wait.

  • I’ll likely go but the only thing I’ll be screaming at is the cinema prices these days.

I was pleasantly surprised to book it for £5.74 a seat (Vue near me in Leamington). I thought that was pretty good.

The local Cineworld and Showcase are both over a tenner.

I saw it in the cinema last time, but if my local shows it I'd be very tempted to go again.

Sometimes, a film totally defines a genre, and Alien does this with sci-fi horror.  It is unlikely it will ever be bettered.

I actually sat through Pandorum once, that was awful.

It all went downhill after that. Well, Aliens 2 wasn't bad.

Wow that must have been bad: I've never seen Aliens 2, and I'll watch any tosh.

  • Tickets booked. I was just a bit too young to have seen it at the cinema first time around so very much looking forward to it on the big screen.

"God damn it that's not all, because if one of those things gets down here, then that will be all and all of this, this bullshit, that you think is so important, well you can just kiss all that goodbye."

I love that scene in Aliens

General comment directed at all calling it Aliens II.

    I'm a bit of a fanboy.

I've seen Alien on the big screen before, it's awesome. They showed it in the Cameo in Edinburgh as a late night double with Aliens. Also awesome.

I saw it when it was first released (I was about 16), I thought that it was fantastic.  I’d seen it a few times on tv since but before Christmas I bought a box set of all the Alien films from CEX to introduce them to my teenage son.  The original now feels so slow.  I also had to explain to him that during the intro scenes that CRT displays on the ships bridge were meant to look futuristic, not retro.

Directors cut of Alien3 is better than Aliens.

I saw it at the pictures when it first came out (haha!).

I also saw Jaws and Star Wars way back...

Agreed, although.... it's not actually a directors cut.

    Fanboi.

I believe it's called an Assembly cut as David Fincher wasn't involved. It follows the shooting script I think, which was also what the novel of the movie used.

On the subject of Alien movies, I always found this very amusing.

    I knew that.

Did you read the wooden planet script? I’d love to have seen that made!

I read a description of it years ago in the teenage years of the internet, I must try and find a copy somewhere since things like that are infinitely easier to find now.
