Calamity Jane was a massive family favourite growing up, one of those the whole family stopped to gather around the box for and my late brother's favourite film so poignant for me when it's on.
As I occasionally explain to my kids when I was growing up all the films on the TV were westerns or musicals or war films. Calamity Jane was a Panzer division short of being the greatest film of all time. Anyone who has never seen it be prepared to suspend a bit of disbelief and your cynicism and enjoy.

Me too with the Doris Day crush! She was absolutely delightful in her films, a wonderful charming actress. RIP Doris, you were a great entertainer.

I always associated Day with the saccharine vaseline-on-the lens TV show, the uptight 35 year old virgin in the Rock Hudson movies and musical fluff like Que Sera Sera.  Then I saw "Love Me or Leave Me" and realised how great a singer she was.  And, when the role called for it, very sexy.
