Well ok its not my workshop as such..  But something cool has happened since I last posted

After the disaster of a year that was 2018 for me (two deaths of people close to me) ive been slowly getting back in to things. And something totally unexpected happened..  I have started working with a guy who wants me to help him sell his stuff on Ebay which is cool as it will help me have a nice steady stream of income AND as he works at a shared workshop I am now trained up and have full use of the facilities there for free as part of the deal.

The place is called Blackhorse Workshop.. And the guy sells hardwood  :)  So best of both worlds for me here..

Check this equipment I now have access too.

And this thicknesser is a beast..  Its really cool as it has a spiral blade with individual cutters..  The cool thing is that if you accidentally put some metal through it and it chips one of the blades you can just replace the single blade rather than having to replace the whole cutter like you would have to do on some of them.. Cool huh

And wood EVRYWHERE …   A lot of the trees we get come from in and around London which is something else I like.

So expect some builds coming up soon.. The main thing for me is getting stuff flat and square and with this equipment it makes it so easy.. I will still probably do a lot of work outside the shop but I can get neck and body blanks prepared really easy now..

I get that the third picture down is a candy floss machine, the rest is lost on me!

Good to see things going well, will watch with interest.

Haha..  Cheers and yeah, I was shocked for the first week or so when the work came up.. And its proper local to me too.. 15 min drive...

Ive never used these machines before either.. They are quite big and scary and each will easily eat your hand if you don't give them respect.. I had to do two different inductions before I was allowed to use them... And today to get used to them I did a standardised job.. Cutting small thin bits out of fuck off huge bits of wood..

    So, turn this

And yes I got more than one out of that bit of wood  D   It was proper sweaty hard work but I loved it. Each piece totally pefect in dimensions.

Superb, I'd love to access to a jointer and a planer, would open up a world of possibilities.
I hope you're able to make good use of it all in time.

Cheers man... And yeah, I have been doing this for something like 7 years now and always thought these tools would be out of reach for me.... I am actually pretty excited to get in there with some of my own projects  :)

FYI Patrick Eggle/Faith have used London Plane for the backs and sides of some acoustic guitars, so it definitely has a history of being used in instruments. And great that you have access to some great equipment and nice local materials.

You lucky git, I'm very jealous of that lot, well done for getting back into it, get some builds going soon

It's funny you start off by hand then it quickly moves to i want lots of nice machines to reduce the mundane stuff to speed things up

Haha, cheers..  And yes I feel very lucky to have come across this opportunity and so close to home.. Hopefully it will work out but if not then I
a/ Am now trained to use this workshop so can always do my own thing (its like £25 a day for a work bench plus membership).
b/ Now have a great place for locally sourced wood which is cool in itself :) (London Plane is beautiful when quarter sawn).

But really lwhat I will mainly do there is cut wood square and straight... These machines are priceless for that reason alone.. I will probably still do the rest of it with my normal tools at my parents, certainly the finishing.
