Fitting a humbucker in a dogear p90 route

I’m curious about trying this - has anyone done it?

The route seems to be the same size as an uncovered humbucker, but a mounting ring would presumably leave the dogear screw holes still in the body. Is there a mounting ring that’s basically a repurposed dogear cover out there or is there a better solution?

Thanks!

There are makers who make HB in a Dogear size, if you're looking to avoid any additional mounting rings and such.

An action that could be considered certifiable by some.

Filter'Tron type pickups will fit in the cavity. Use a Gretsch style clear/silver or clear/gold plastic surround to hide the gaps.

Not those who’ve got a Wilkinson stacked P90 thing...

What colour are the plastic parts on the guitar, black or cream?

Thanks for that but that costs more than the guitar...I was thinking open Iron Gear humbucker in a modified dogear cover...

I wasn’t trying to plug the pickup, just the idea.

The important bit of fitting a conventional humbucker under a P90 cover is that the bobbins need to be shaved down and mounted closer together on the baseplate. This is how that Seymour Duncan pickup is constructed.

There is not room in a P90 route to fit a conventional humbucker ... as in an Irongear etc. The bobbins themselves will just squeeze into the space (depending on the bobbins), but the baseplate on any humbucker is a couple of mm wider than the bobbins to facilitate the 'lip' that a cover solders to ... this will make it too wide for a P90 route. There is basically no room for a ring or adaptor plate etc ... that's why Gibson built the mini humbucker. A dogear cover is not height adjustable, has the pole screw holes in the wrong place ...
