    No Midi? I’m out :(
    They have midi.
But with weird plugs. Are they going to make people buy one of those MIDI hub things like Source Audio and Chase Bliss? Or just an adapter?

No idea right now. But I sorta like it. Means you can put the midi brains under the board, and keep the top nice and tidy. Better for board real estate too.

    Bye!

Don't care what they look like! The delay has midi, I'm almost in! I like the workman look it does it for me. It's the right size as well.

Boss have apparently got an adaptor that does it.

    Only 4 presets though, that's a shame. I'm out.

I'm interested to find out what you lose compared to the 500 series. I suspect you'll only be able to use one preset at a time, not two, and that the deeper editing stuff will be either gone altogether or accessible only on an editor program.

I'm guessing based on the presence of a USB port and a CTL/EXP jack that you'll be able to tweak stuff and set up CTL functions with an editor.

MIDI via TRS isn't too bad- adapters only cost a couple of quid.

You get the manual setting plus the 4 presets so you can set 5 sounds up really.

I don't think so. Stuff like Arturia's Beatstep Pro and Novation's Launchpad Pro have minijack MIDI connections instead of DIN and I'm not aware of these relatively low priced products needing an adapter.

A post on Gearslutz suggests some standards of wiring are now coming in.

So with the Boss pedals they will be of the Type A variety.

  • I imagine it would've been too big anyway, but I just picked up a DD7 once again to give my board the extra delay option. Would've been cool to consider the DD200.

The DD200 appeals to me more than my DD500 in a way. A bit more portable, has all the features on it that I would ever need, is simpler to use by the look of it.

I still really dig the DD20 as a "workhorse" delay for gigging. The digi and modulated modes are exactly what you need them to be. The only thing it doesn't do is decent tape emulation, so I use an el-cap / helix most the time.

Dd-200 looks great - I’m definitely interested. Properly put off by the complexity of the 500 series so these, for me at least, look like a good compromise of tweaking, a few presets and what-you-see simplicity. Assuming it sounds good

The DD-200 does look like just the ticket for people who liked the DD-20 but didn't like the complexity of the DD-500.

I'd put money on there being an editor that will let you get at least some of the in-depth stuff, and I imagine there will be quite a few downgraders who will thank BOSS if presets are transferable between the 500s and the 200s.

Only then you're left with only the two-engine expanded series/parallel capabilities and the £100 price gap to differentiate between the 200s and 500s. I wonder if they aren't cannibalising their own market...

  • How does the digital delay compare to something like the Nova Delay or a TC2290? Is it good basically?

The Digital delay on the ds500 has incredible fidelity

one of the things that seems to be missing on the DD200 is the vintage digital setting, which I believe is a recreation of the 2290 or maybe a Korg. Can’t remember off the top of my head

    200 via midi
I was hoping someone was going to say something like this! II it true? Can it be so?

It would be pointless having midi and not have the capacity to have loads of savable presets.

It's like someone giving you the keys to a car with 500 bhp with no wheels on it.
