  • Kyuss- sludgy, stoner metal.

Clutch- often funky, I love Fallons vocal & the riffs are HUGE.

Lamb of God- Vocals might put you off, but a great band.
    https://youtu.be/oqdZpxkzNvc

Cancer Bats- one of the best live bands I’ve seen. Quite “punk” but I love em.
    https://youtu.be/TxMV-jJEShA

Stone Sour- say what you like about Slipknot, but Corey has a great voice.

Axewound- BFMV + Cancer Bats = great.
    https://youtu.be/9A3u2LOqYk0

Avenged Sevenfold- Syn and Zacky are two of the best guitarists I’ve ever seen. Their harmonised solos are amazing.

  • Take a chance on my band: www.bridgedisaster.co.uk
I particularly like wires/dreams\wires- headphones on for total Immersion it's great to work to.

As are Pelican & Russian Circles

@stimpsonslostson agreed on Cancer Bats, great band. On a similar note check out Every Time I Die. Not so into the newer stuff but The Big Dirty and New Junk Aesthetic are 2 if my favourite albums. Great riffs and I love the lyrics/manic vocal style.

    Clutch go without saying really

Edit - also, Turnstile and Haggard Cat are worth a listen!

  • One more.
Reuben. I'd pay good money to see a reunion tour, though Jamie Lenman is still performing.

Some of this probably not quite as heavy as you wanted, and not quite the same stuff but it's things I'd easily recommend anyway. Some albums follow.

    Norma Jean - Redeemer
Hopesfall - Arbiter, The Satellite Years
Cancer Bats - Bears, Mayors, Scraps and Bones, Hail Destroyer
The Bronx - The Bronx III
And So I Watch You From Afar - Gangs, and self-titled debut
Poison the Well - You Come Before You (screamy but not Cookie Monster), The Tropic Rot

    MUSIC: Pale Blurs

    Trouble - Psalm 9 and the 1990 self-titled
    Cro-Mags - Age Of Quarrel
    Confessor - Condemned
Integrity - For Those Who Fear Tomorrow
    Fall Of Efrefa - Owsla
Warning - Watching From A Distance (best doom album of the last 20 years)
If you like Pantera then the obvious choice is Exhorder. Without getting into to the whole did pantera copy them thing (the answer is not really)  it's worth noting that Kyle from Exhoder and Phil were great friends as kids and they shared the same vocal influences (Eric Adams/Don Doty etc).

I have all the early (pre-crash) Baroness albums, and they're brilliant - I can only endorse the recommendation.

Left field - try Sleep - Dopesmoker
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

Thanks so much for all the replies, guys. Been listening to a fair wedge and have compiled quite the shopping list!
Rediscovered some stuff I used to listen to but haven’t in ages (Slayer, mainly, Draconian Times by Paradise Lost, Machinehead), and loads of new stuff I’m really excited to listen to.

    Death to all but \m/etal!

Not massively heavy, but I've been really enjoying listening to Wucan this week.

On the "quite like meshuggah but struggle with the vocals" front then perhaps some djenty bands might interest you as that genre basically spawned from meshuggah. They often have clean singing too.

Periphery, Tesseract and Monuments are worht investigating.

  • Not a big fan of metal, but I've been into Freak Kitchen for some years. Talented bunch and a great live band if you get a chance to see them.

Brilliant album and in bad need of a remix or remaster so we can hear the bass and low end properly! The one after that, while not heavy is pretty good too, The Art of Rebellion.

    Has anyone mentioned Gallows yet?
Grey Britain is one of the most vitriolic albums I've ever heard- Frank Carter is a ball of rage throughout.
Think Sex Pistols with Sabbath riffs.

MrsLostSon HATES it, which is a ringing endorsement in my book.

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.
