Sorted: Les Paul Neck Pickup Volume Control Fault - volume cutting back in below '3'

Fried pot...
I wired up my Les Paul with 500K pots (previously 260 and 270K).
The neck volume however is behaving strangely.
As I roll it down, the volume does decrease - but then below 3 or 4, the volume comes back again.
Once I noticed the fault, I cheeked with a multimeter, and the earth terminal of the neck volume pot is earthed well - even after my multimeter told me there was continuity, I still added more solder - 'just to be sure' but nothing is changing, and the fault remains.
Is this something you have encountered please...?
Expert advice most appreciated.
