Applying a burst finish over Tru Oil?

What's Hot
I have this partscaster I finished in Tru Oil, no stain underneath just oil onto bare ash.
I'm considering putting a subtle burst on this and I'm wondering if it's possible to add a burst over the top of the oil using tinted oil maybe?
Has anyone done or tried this?

This was one my mate did he started it out with just straight true oil.
Then decided to do something else he did not sand back to wood just lightly roughed it up and then started working in with some oil based aniline dye powders I got a while back mixed into the Tru Oil. The neck is Gibson scale just incase you thought it looked a bit stubby.

    That's quite lovely!

You say oil based aniline from powders? Is that just the powders mixed with spirit then added to the oil?
