Whats the best "Feeling" OD under the fingers youve come across?  capturing the same dynamics as your valve amp clean.  Preferably with a strat

Not an expert on OD pedals but I like the feel of the DOD Looking Glass, esp it’s response when you dig in.

To me, more compression feels good under the fingers, so the TS808 feels pretty great. A pedal that captured the amp's dynamics would feel less good for a lot of things, even if it sounds better. But if that's what you want, a Timmy can be set that way very nicely.

    Also not an expert, but:

DOD Looking Glass is good, also, the BJFE Honey Bee / Mad Professor Sweet Honey*, and the Mad Professor Royal Blue, out of the pedals I've tried.

The DOD Looking Glass has a very flexible EQ, but doesn't get quite as gainy as the Royal Blue, and is a little noisier when the gain is high.

I like a bit of compression, too, but I run the compressor after the low-to-mid gain overdrive, so that the amount of grit I get is still responsive to pick attack.

    * caveat: I built a clone, but I've no reason to suspect the real thing behaves differently.

I prefer the feel of an OD with less compression, the silver J Rockett Archer is one of the best for me.

I've had a Looking Glass, got to be honest and say I don't think it is a patch on The Peacekeeper for touch and feel.

Mad Professor Royal Blue.  The most dynamic OD I've owned.
    No Darling....I've had that ages.

Can't comment on the Lightspeed, but yes a Fuzz Face (or decent clone) is very touch-responsive in a surprisingly amp-like way. Also this:

Broadcast was lovely under the fingers but my VL Jimi face fuzz face feels incredible. I had a Vick Audio 73 rams head which felt fantastic too! :)

The best I felt live were the various Barber drives I owned. Half Gainer, Dual Unlimited and most of the big box originals, they were all great and really delivered at volume.

I agree, it's very responsive to intensity/guitar volume

  • I’ve had load of stuff, found a tubescreamer to be too compressed for me. Owned/ tried lots of Way Huge stuff which were really impressive. Now exclusively run a Earthquaker Grey Chanel and it is extremely responsive and versatile
