Caliper Recommendations

I've got a pair of digital calipers I bought off eBay for about £3 on a punt. Wasn't sure if I needed them or if I would even use them but for three quid it was worth a try.

Turns out I use them LOADS. Downside, I don't trust them for anything other than a really rough measurement. I'd like something which I know I can trust to be accurate. But where to start? Any suggestions?

EDIT: Needs to be metric, imperial an advantage but not necessary. Current ones are made of plastic, stainless would be better though I think.

I've been using a pair of Kennedy 150mm calipers for years and they're perfect.

Old Moore and wright  or Starret speed reads also tough and accurate.

     Great for micrometers too.

Thanks chaps. Any reason why a dial one should be bought over a digital one?

Something about the mechanical ones makes me trust them more than the many digital ones on the market. Curiously, a lot of the £70 digital calipers look nearly identical to my £3 ones which makes me feel like I may just spend £70 to get a different logo on the box.

I've just spent £40 on some StewMac calipers because they display in fractions of an inch.
