My daughter’s primary school summer fete has basically morphed into a mini music festival and my band has been roped into playing a set.  As some of you are aware, I’m rather fond of my Pink Squier ‘Hello Kitty’ Strat and thought it would be an ideal guitar to play for a bunch of kids and parents.

Then I started doubting myself that it might seem a little creepy ( maybe it always was and I was too dumb t realise!)

So, primary school gig, Hello Kitty Strat. Yay or Nay?

A gig at a primary school fete is probably the least worst time to break out a kid-themed guitar.  Just don’t get carried away and start doing hip-thrusting Hendrixisms towards the audience.

    Yay. Not creepy at all.

Probably don't take the Rolf Harris Signature wobble board though.

Weirdly our band play a lot of our gigs for the vintage biker crowd. The Hello Kitty guitar goes down surprisingly well at these events as it obvious that it’s just a bit of a laugh.  For a middle age bloke to be playing one in maybe its ‘natural’  environment loses the irony a bit and I started questioning myself...

Its fine.  But if she showed up with a double EMG les Paul custom in black, that would be cooler.

I’d take it along for a couple of songs - not sure I’d play the whole set. I’m sharing your creepy concerns!

    Definitely not creepy at all.

The aduts will find it a laugh and the kids might think it's cool.

Everyone knows most modern UK schools now have 2 main divergent factions, the Hello Kitties and the Spongebobbers. Anyone playing a gig at a school might want to atrempt to draw a peaceful accord between these disparate elements, but not you, you'd rather nail your colours to the mast and probably cause a near riot in the process.

    Just take a spare guitar...

ICBM beat me to it, but I reckon breaking out the SpongeBob for a couple of numbers would be a larf too.

(Just so long as you haven't got one themed on the childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - 'Sweeties, sweeties, all free today!')
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

haha I wonder if anyone like him enjoys that song in a non-satirical or ironic way. Just see it as an anthem to live by
