Doed anyone own, or have heard one of these in the flesh ?
l was looking at the Hartman originally, but I think these may have the edge, according to various online discussions.
Any thoughts ?

Did he? Ha! I've just put the video on again whilst I start cooking as I watched it at the time but couldn't remember much about it.

  • Hey, We have some in stock in limited edition blue so i can personally vouch for this pedal. Check out this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb86WnXX_uc its a pretty good demo. The pedal is pretty faithful to the Electric Mistress, circuit and everything.

I've got both...they're definitely cut from the same cloth.

    Comparison:
    - Hartman is much bigger...seems warmer (more low end)...controls are a little more extreme
    - Longamp isn't small (about the same footprint as a Strymon El Cap)...more hi-fi...controls are pretty 'musical' at most settings

In my rig, the Longamp is more picky about power and what comes before it in the chain.
It's a fairly big pedalboard running off a Strymon Zuma & Ojai and the Longamp was not happy about:
    a. having a buffered Tapestry volume pedal in front of it
    b. being powered by the Ojai when the volume pedal was also hooked up

Incidentally, when A/B-ing, the Longamp was not happy about coming after the Hartman (the true bypass Hartman was off!). Conversely, the Hartman was happy whatever.

I rejigged what was powered from where and solved that bit...then I moved the Longamp nearer to the front of the chain (not so bad because I was running it pre-drive anyway). I don't know what was going on there as the Strymon power supplies are isolated! ;-/

Anyway, it's all good now and the Longamp has edged-out the Hartman just for sheer convenience due to size.

Longamp missed a trick - why did they use blue LEDs on the Roxanne? - they should be red!

If you're going to consider the Mooer Elec Lady, take a look at the Donner Jet Convolution. It is the same as the Mooer but less money.

I have tried both the Hartmann and this. If you want Green Script EM tones, the Roxanne is better- but, the TC SCF is even better at those tones.

I had one for a few weeks, it didn't set my world on fire. I had to re-route the input and output wires to stop the clock noise.

Stu, didn't they make the roxanne specifically with the clock noise?!

Well I'm not sure if the first version build on the Madbean PCB had the clock noise, I had one of the newer ones on his own board.

Maybe I just don't like Flanger rather than not liking the pedal lol.

  • Thanks guys for all the great info
It could well be the Retro sonic for me although the TC scf is really nice, but the size of a golf course, well mini golf at least.
Anyone tried a TC vortex out of curiousity ?

Great choice, I love my Retro Sonic. It's got the 18v power thingy going on too, which is nice. Sounds great to my ears.

Have you had the chance to play a Roxanne? I actually have one preordered from Poland for a decent price, but I’m wondering if it’s worth spending 50 quid extra plus customs for a Retrosonic as it’s so well spoken of. Hopefully I’ll get lucky and one will pop up in the classifieds

edit: I’ve cancelled the roxanne so it’s either a thorpy or RS
