Absolutely awesome! Basically Vicentino’s Arciorgano keyboard

    Why the non-uniform spacing?

Sounds great in isolation but how would this sound within a band?

Awesome so long as the song is in a simple key like D or G. Or in the case of Sweet Home Alabama, both.

To which note scale convention(s) does it conform? Western, Arabic, Indian, Japanese?

As he says about 22 seconds into the video, there are 12 notes per octave (these will be the western scale) plus another 12 frets at harmonic intervals. So you’ve got two sets of frets which are spaced according to two different sets of rules. The only overlaps are where the 4th and 5th are on a normal guitar, and of course the octave.

It gives the 100% pure “just intonation” intervals rather than the “equal-tempered” intervals that normal frets give. Even the 4ths and 5ths are subject to tempering on a normal guitar.
