My dad died last night.

What's Hot

As title, my dad passed away yesterday evening. After nearly 15 years of being his sole carer I am devastated. I am now staring at homelessness as the housing association will repossess the house that we have lived in for over 20 years. I don't know where to turn with all this happening, dark times ahead.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

Sad news and I wish you strength in tough times. I agree, talk with the Citizens Advice Bureau and see what they have to say. You may find that you're entitled to stay in the house, if that's your choice.

    Good luck and stay strong.

That is hard. You will come through this but the grieving process has to happen. Deepest condolences.

I hope you can stay in your place or at least be offered to downsize.

    Best wishes Zepp.

So sorry to hear about that. Good on you for looking after your dad, I'm a big believe that you have to look after family. I know it sounds a bit naff, but life knocks us down and we get up and move on. Just take things a day at a time and see what turns up. I was in a very dark and depressing place in 2014, it lasted a year but things came good again eventually.

Thank you for all the kind words, it means a lot. I'm hoping I can get help with housing as I am classed as a vulnerable person due to mental health issues. I really can't face sorting it all out today so am going to start phoning around on Monday. Fingers crossed I get something sorted.
Tomorrow will be a good day.

That's crap, man - housing associations and councils are known for smacking you with the double-whammy like that.

However...a friend of my wife's had a similar situation a short while ago - he was caring for his mother in council-owned managed housing, and when she died he ended up taking over the tenancy because he was similarly vulnerable. I don't know what your housing association would do, but it's certainly possible.

obviously you have a lot to deal with straight away, but might be worth talking to your GP re the housing and your mental health etc. They may be able to access information or advise on services that can help you.

Sorry to hear that news.  I know nothing we can say can make you feel better but as axisus said you should be proud about looking after your dad for so long ( especially having problems of your own)

Don't rush anything at the moment and remember there's loads of people on here at any time, don't feel bad about reaching out to any of us
