Looks possible I'll be around Durham-Newcastle early next week.

So assuming that comes to fruition, is there anything I should try to attend/visit/avoid at all costs. I shall have herself to keep me in check, so drug dens and brothels are off the agenda apparantly!

Open Mics Monday or Tuesday?

Headed on to Huddersfield mid week, so similar questions.

There’s a Jazz night at the Head of Steam in Huddersfield on a Wednesday night that I’ve played at before. That’s the train station pub.
Not sure about Durham or Newcastle but they’re great cities so will have something on I’m sure.

Thanks Koss, looks like I'm gone by Wednes evening, but I'll keep it in mind in case things change.

  • If you're in the centre of Newcastle I'd give the Stack open mic a go on the Monday night. It's a big, multi-purpose open air thing, with craft bars, interesting independent food pop-up vendors and bars. There's always a good few people in there on an evening, especially if the weather's nice. Granted, most of them are there for the food and drink rather than the music, but at least you avoid the risk of playing to one man and his dog, as can happen at some pub open mics on a quiet Monday night!

Thanks @Dontgiveupyourdayjob noted. I've had some very good crowd response from the odd dog in the past ;-)

I lived and worked in Durham for 30 years

Kynren is on, and is brilliant, but only on Staurday nights.

There's not much by way of open mic nights sadly.

The botanical gardens near the university are nice this time of year, and up there you've got the Oriental and Archeological Museum as well.

The cathedraland castle are always a decent visit as well.

Beamish isn't too far away either for a bit of old world charm
