Walnut Stratocaster Build

Hi all,

I had a neck and enough parts from various other projects to undertake a new build, so when a walnut body turned up here on the forums I thought it might be a good opportunity for an easy project.

Anyhow after a couple of light coats of clear nitro it all went together nicely. I tried a few different pick guard options but settled with the aged black look in the end (pickguard from a vintage 76 Strat). CTS pots and handwound 60s inspired stagger pole pickups.

the neck is from a MIM Strat and is slim but comfortable, I rolled the edges a little and recoiled it.

Mixed up the live and ground wires on the jack so it hummed like a mofo when I first plugged it in, quick fix and it sounds awesome now, nicely rounded on the neck pup and twangy on the bridge.

Looks cool. Think I prefer it with the white guard tho ;)

I like the walnut, particularly the way it’s offset by the pale patch under your forearm. I’d go for whichever guard sets off the woodgrain to best effect, which in the the pictures is the white one. It may be different in the flesh

Thinking I may put this up for sale to fund another project (I have a nice old 62 Slab board pre CBS that ticks the Strat box),

Does £400 sound reasonable? I realise I'd probably get more by splitting it up, but that's a last resort.

Thanks man. 400 Seems reasonable. A 2nd hand mim neck would be 100+ for a start :)

I really like Walnut as a material for bodies/tops.  Love the grain patterns and colour variation.

You might get lucky, but  - sadly - Partsocasters typically sell for significantly less than the value of the parts, and that's before you consider the costs of finishing and the time taken ...
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

    Cheers @TTony appreciate the feedback.

I don't mind parting it but seems as shame as it all sits well together and is set up nicely :)

    Jokes isn't it?

We couldn't sell my mrs basic dinky js11 for £50
So I parted it & got over 120

Mad. Result tho seeing as it cost her 20£
(Monstrosity of a white flying v coming with proceeds)

  • Hi @Ruving ;

It didn't comply with the forum classified rules so I will need to break it up. If you're interested let me know.

    Cheers
