Are Ebay sellers completely deluded??!!

I was toying with picking up a Zoom G5 to fiddle around with at home (had one, sold it, got the G5n that was pants re memory structure, and sold that). There was a guy selling a mint one at a start price of £70, no bids, and I could have bid but it was way out of my way, and he wasn't responding to 3 requests if he'd be prepared to post.  So, didn't inspire confidence that if I bid and went to collect that I could trust him to be there. Just before one went for £85 and I was pipped in the last seconds.  So that's pretty much the price of these things - £70-90 tops (and I'm well familiar with prices on these).

Anyway, on Ebay right now there's four.  A buy it now at £145 plus £11.50 postage ie around double what its worth, one for £159 + £10.50 postage (even worse) and then one at £190 'recently serviced' (which means its had a problem - you don't exactly service these things!) .  And then (admittedly it comes in a flight case) there's one at (wait for it) ....at....£350!!

Needless to say these have been on absolutely ages (months) as no one in their right minds would spend this much on these units.   But if they're not selling, and getting no bids, doesn't it dawn on them that they are way overpriced and they need to seriously reduce the prices to get interest?  And if you can't be bothered to post it (it's in a nice rectangular box, and it's not heavy so there's no excuse) sellers aren't exactly helping themselves.

And there's plenty of this nonsense pricing on other gear where folk massively over-value their gear - it just so happens that a G5 is what I was looking at.  I'd pay maybe up to £85 for a mint example inc delivery, but no more (- I'm in no hurry).

So, as per the thread title - are these people completely deluded??!!  I think the answer has to be a resounding YES.  When will they learn that gear s only worth what someone's willing to pay, and if its been on 2-3 months clearly that's a pretty strong indicator that prospective buyers simply aren't willing to pay those prices.   s

These normally sell for between £35 and £50 for a set in good nick.

    Hilariously deluded!

There's an EBS multicomp on for nearly £250.

While we're at it, I've got a G3X you could make me a sensible offer on as long as the valve isn't a dealbreaker.

It's not just music stuff, it's everything.
There are lots of nutcases around. You could try making them an offer, that's worked for me in the past.

I have.  They give me daft responses like "these sell for £150 all day long and it's a bargain at that price".  Yeah, right!  2 to 3 months is a heck of a long day!! Lol.

Many thanks @simonhpieman and I appreciate the offer.  But whilst the G3x is nice and compact and it can run on batteries, the differences are much more than just the valve boost (which in itself is very useful for lead solo boosts and tone-shaping).
The 3 screens v 4 and more limited 3 button switching v 5 in the G5 mean a lot more scrolling and double-foot switch tapping which isn't ideal.  The other themes are significantly less memory & processing power which means although both are using the same algorithms, the tones from the G3 are not quite the same quality as the G5.  Only 6 simultaneous effects in the G3 v 9 in the G5, 94 fx v 123 in G5, 297 memory slots in G5 that are all fully programmable v 100 user and 100 factory presets in G3, only 40 sec looper G3 v 60 sec in the G5, Z-pedal (G3x is non Z).  Interestingly the patch change in the G3 is 1ms v 1.6ms in the G5, but its so fast anyway the difference is imperceptible.

So I'll bide my time and keep my eyes peeled for a G5 at a good price. The only reason I sold the G5 and got the G5n was because of its superior switching for gigging but its awful and memory hungry software design meant it was actually a step backwards, hence why I sold it.

There’s loads of stuff like this.

I collect Sega Megadrive Games and see some on eBay that are 10x the price they should be

I think some of them are just chancers hoping they get that one buy with loads of money who don’t know what they’re doing. But realistically it ain’t gonna happen

i also play Warhammer (yes I’m a gigantic nerd, leave me alone) and don’t get me started on the amount of “pro-painted” models on there going for grossly inflated prices. Bearing in mind these “pro-painted” models look some one swallowed a pot of paint then took a shit on a bunch of models
